The Reserve Chardonnay represents a blend of our most prized Chardonnay vineyards, each located in the cooler southern half of the Mornington Peninsula and each displaying easterly dispositions.

The 2019 season was characterised by a warm start, followed by a cool February; the result was a slightly earlier than average vintage displaying fruit of good intensity, together with generous levels of natural acid.

The 2019 Reserve Chardonnay is a blend of the KBS (67%), Thompson (16%) and Gainsborough Park (17%) vineyards. Picked between March 3 rd and 10th , each vineyard batch was whole bunch pressed and fermented separately in French oak puncheons (average 34% new, with balance in one to five year old), with approximately 66% of the puncheons selected to undergo malolactic fermentation. After almost 9 months in barrel, the vineyard components were blended and retained in tank for a month prior to bottling in January, 2020.

Colour Pale straw with a green tinge.

Aroma Classic lemon, lime and spice so typical in our region.

Palate Very closed as a young wine, like a wound up coil of potential power. There are hints of talc-like savoury lemon, with some attractive toasted oak and ferment complexity, but this is a wine that will continue to unravel, becoming more complex and expansive over the next 6 months and beyond. A real thinking person’s Chardonnay.
